Plymouth Brethren News and Media Releases
From time to time we will add content and media releases to this section so that our members and non-members alike can keep up to date with Plymouth Brethren News.
Some facts and background
Plymouth Brethren date back to the 1830’s when a founding congregation was established in Plymouth UK under the leadership of J N Darby. Sometimes called ‘Darbyites’, we were classified as Plymouth Brethren IV in the 1926 United States “Census of Religious Bodies”.
Although known as “Plymouth Brethren” (P.B.), we have also been known as “Exclusive Brethren” (E.B.) especially since the late 1950′s when the latter was accorded us by the popular media of the day. Some critics have unfairly and inaccurately used the “Exclusive” name inferring that we are “secretive” and “cut off” from the broader community.
However, our members can be found every day working and living alongside people from many and varied walks of life.
Collectively Brethren employ thousands of non-Brethren staff. Brethren are caring, active and contributing members of their local communities and respond noticeably in times of crisis.
Our beliefs, founded in Christianity, recognize the Holy Bible as the Word of God. We are a Christian Church covering a wide range of socio-economic categories in both developed and developing countries.
We have regard for all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ and respect the many other Christian churches to which they belong. We have no doubt that there are myriads who are ‘saved’ and will be in heaven eternally.
