FURTHER EXTENSIVE AND UNRELIABLE ARTICLE BY THE TIMES

ALLEGATION RESPONSE
1. The Exclusive Brethren operate 34 schools under a restrictive regime PBCC schools are registered with the DfE and operate within the Independent Schools regulations. They are subject to 162A Inspections and these reports, which are in the public domain, disprove the allegation of restriction.,
2. Funding of FLT schools under investigation by taxman over multi million pound gift aid claims We are in constructive dialogue with HMRC to bring clarity around how to represent some aspects of the school funding.
3. Restrictive regime that segregates boys and girls during break times at secondary schools Many schools do so.
4. Has banned books including J.D.Salinger’s ‘Catcher in the Rye’ We rely on our professional teachers to select whatever text books they need to deliver the curriculum.
5. Uses text books with pages on evolution torn out Evolution is taught by professional teachers as a valid scientific theory.
6. Private schools, cost £30 million a year to run This is a significant saving of approximately £15 million for the taxpayer.
7. Charity regulator struck a deal with Brethren to grant them charitable status False. No deal was struck. The Charity Commission made its decision independently after examining extensive evidence.
8. Crispin Blunt MP "Charity Commission…. bowed to pressure and has not conducted a full review" False. The Charity Commission conducted a very full review and examined extensive evidence including allegations by former members..
9. Gavin Shuker "Brethren’s practices "essentially cultish" False. PBCC practices and way of life are based on the Holy Scriptures.
10. Individual schools retain discretion over what is taught and how We teach the National Curriculum and our professional teachers have discretion over their classroom delivery.
