Australian Parliament praises efforts of RRT volunteers
The Rapid Relief Team has been praised in Australia’s Federal Parliament for its efforts to support frontline emergency services workers.
In front of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, the Member for Hughes, Jenny Ware, waxed lyrical about her experience of RRT services at a recent event at Holsworthy Army Barracks.
Ms. Ware told Parliament that she was “delighted to speak about the contributions of the Rapid Relief Team, an organisation largely run by volunteers that provides catering and support to our first responders during emergencies and crisis situations.”
Reflecting on a recent trip to Holsworthy Army Barracks for a Women’s Health Week event with NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and Fire and Rescue NSW, Ms Ware said “I saw firsthand the work of the RRT’s catering expertise.
“I applaud the RRT for being a pillar of support not just in Hughes but across Australia. Their tireless efforts, whether through distributing warm meals or through fostering resilience and care, elevate our emergency services,” she said.
“Thank you to the Rapid Relief Team and particularly all of those of the Engadine team.”
Ms Ware’s wonderful testament was unexpected – but not exclusive. It followed high parliamentary praise for RRT earlier this month, with Member for Calare, Andrew Gee, also speaking of his admiration for the efforts of RRT in supporting emergency workers during fires and flooding in his electorate in the NSW mid-west.
“The Rapid Relief Team are a fantastic group of volunteers who set up mobile catering for our disaster-affected towns and also fed our firies during the Hill End fire emergency. On Eugowra’s darkest day, I worked closely with the Rapid Relief Team to get food into the showground that night and feed at least 60 tired and exhausted evacuees,” he said.
“Their kindness and dedication throughout the disasters that have hit our region will never be forgotten. I sincerely thank all volunteers and organisations who have helped our region with this traumatic and devastating time in our history.”
