Behind the Plymouth Brethren – a not-so Exclusive podcast launches today

The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church has launched a podcast to tell the real-life stories of what it is like to be a member of the Church that is often falsely labelled a ‘cult’.

PBCC spokesperson, turned-podcast host, Lloyd Grimshaw said that Behind the Plymouth Brethren – a not-so Exclusive Podcast will answer the most frequently asked questions the Church receives.

“For decades, the church has been unfairly labelled as a cult, with members who don’t pay tax, treat women as second-class citizens, and shun the wider community – none of which is true,” said Mr Grimshaw.

“We hope that by giving a platform to the people who are part of the Church, we can correct the record and give a more accurate view of who we are and what we believe in.”

Behind the Plymouth Brethren – a not-so Exclusive Podcast has launched today with Episode One, which is the first of a four-part conversation with the four Hales brothers, Gareth, Dean, Charles and Greg, sons of the Church’s most senior leader Mr Bruce Hales.

“Through this podcast series, the men and women of the Plymouth Brethren will tell their own stories in their own words,” said Mr Grimshaw.

“We hope to give a truer picture of the 55,000 Plymouth Brethren across the world – who are just regular people trying to live good, Christian lives.”

Episode One can be viewed on YouTube.

The PBCC was established around 200 years ago, founded by John Nelson Darby, one of the most influential Protestant thinkers of the 19th century. Today there are more than 55,000 community members across Australia, the Caribbean, Europe, New Zealand, North and South America and the United Kingdom.

This is categorically untrue.   In the interest of transparency and truth, we have published a full statement below on this matter.   Media Statement Last week The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age published the article […]
