Leeton Rapid Relief Team supports Child Protection Week

The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) has put on a BBQ lunch for more than 150 people in Leeton as part of a Mission Australia event to raise awareness of Child Protection Week.

 Around ten members of the local Leeton RRT served up the team’s signature burgers, sausage sandwiches and chicken wraps to the public at Marie Bashir Park, Narranderra.

 This year’s theme for Child Protection Week is “Every Conversation Matters,” which is designed to highlight the importance of participating in conversations that protect and uplift children.

“This is an important event and an important conversation for the community, so when Mission Australia reached out for support we were glad to break out the BBQ trailer and start cooking,” RRT Leeton Local Team Leader Terry Pagden said.

“Our children are our future and the highest priority must be in making sure they are protected from harm. This is event goes a long way in making sure everyone in the community is having the conversations that will keep our kids safer into the future.

“The team was delighted to be able to feed about 150 people and be part of this initiative which helps people engage on a very important topic.”

Mission Australia’s Program Manager for Family Preservation, Chantelle Scott, thanked the Rapid Relief Team volunteers for their support.

“Having organisations like the Rapid Relief Team support our Child Protection Week event here in Leeton is a major boost and we’re grateful for their contribution, especially at lunch time when the burgers hit the spot,” Chantelle said.

About the Rapid Relief Team (RRT)

RRT is the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church and supports frontline workers and emergency services by providing food, donations and other resources, as well as hosting community events. 

Established in 2013 to assist emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support, it’s expanded to more than 14,500 volunteers and provides support to the community through charitable donations and events.
