RRT and Farmers Across Borders join forces for hay run

Plymouth Brethren Christian Church volunteers with the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) answered a call for support from Farmers Across Borders as they prepared to transport 86 truckloads of donated hay from Western Australia into drought-ravaged South Australia. RRT kept the large group of volunteers well-fed as they loaded up the road trains with hay bales that have now been driven from Fraser Range Station, WA to Wudinna, SA.

“We know how hard South Australia’s farmers are fighting through this ongoing drought – and every donated hay bale or feed bag helps. RRT is always ready to uplift and support other charities in their efforts.”

RRT AU Operations Manager

RRT volunteers from Cunderdin, Northam and Dalwallinu provided the volunteer truck drivers with over 360 meals over three days ahead of the long journey across the border. This is a real journey of generosity by Farmers Across Borders, from WA to SA – so when they asked RRT for support, our volunteers were happy to help, with lots of very early, very cold starts serving meals around the clock.

“Hay from WA” run was made possible through a partnership with Lions Club Need for Feed, who purchased the hay, and Primary Industries South Australia.

“Planning and coordinating this ginormous run has taken a lot of teamwork, and we do it with one purpose – to support and help our fellow farmers. Truck drivers have come from Victoria, SA and WA to make this possible. The operation to load the trucks through the Wheatbelt area would not have been possible without the generous donations and support from RRT – and it made the job so much easier being well fed and greeted with wonderful smiling faces!”
