RRT Supports The Big Harrogate Sleepout
In 2013, the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) was established to help put our care and compassion into action for the benefit of people in need. Fast forward to today, and RRT is active in 14 countries and is operated by 14,500 volunteers from our Community.
In 2022, an estimated 274,000 people in the UK were experiencing homelessness, including those in temporary accommodation. This statistic highlights the ongoing challenge our society faces and underscores the vital work being done by organisations like the Harrogate Homeless Project.
On October 4th, local RRT volunteers supported the Harrogate Homeless Project by serving approximately 50 bacon rolls to attendees. The event brought together managing directors, owners, and teams from several companies, including Harrogate Spring Water and Belzona. RRT was proud to be part of this initiative, which focused on tackling homelessness while allowing colleagues, friends, and local businesses to reconnect.
The Harrogate Homeless Project offers vital support to individuals experiencing homelessness, providing a safe environment to help them regain confidence and work toward independent living. The project includes several critical services: a Move-On Accommodation that provides extended support for those who still need to be ready to live independently, a Hotstel on Bower Street, which is the only direct access hostel in the Harrogate district, accommodating 16 individuals in single The Second Night Out service also offers five emergency bunk beds for those in immediate need. At the same time, the Springboard Day Centre provides meals, shower and laundry facilities, workshops, and access to psychotherapy and GP services, fostering a holistic approach to recovery and well-being.
Event organiser Hadyn expressed her gratitude, saying,
“You and your team are superstars! We were all so impressed by your happy smiling presence and amazing service. What an incredible organisation. We are so grateful for your support and hope to see you again next year if not before!”
