RRT Tamworth support Aged Care Expo

Four volunteers from the Rapid Relief Team Tamworth have served up more than 70 burgers to aged care service providers at an expo to bring carers and patients together to access services throughout the region.

The event, which was supported by the Benevolent Society, gave families, patients and carers the opportunity to connect with around 30 different service providers.

RRT Tamworth Local Team Leader Ian Scott said the Aged Care Expo was important in regional areas where access to services can be more difficult.

“It was great to see so many service providers in one place talking with people and supplying them with the information they need to make the best decision for themselves and their families when it comes to aged care,” Ian said.

“Often it can be harder for people in regional areas to get access to information and advice, which is why this event was so well received.

“We had a small team of four volunteers helping out, but it was a committed team, and we managed cook enough burgers to keep everyone well fed and focused on the task at hand.

“We got to hear from guest speakers from Carers NSW, Dementia Support and NSW Fire and Rescue talking about how elderly people can stay in their homes for longer. The Rapid Relief Team is very glad to be able to support events that benefit the community, and this one certainly did.”

The Rapid Relief Team is the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church. Established in 2013, the RRT has more than 14,500 volunteers worldwide who support the community through charitable donations and events, as well as assisting emergency services in times of disaster and crisis by providing meals and other support.
