Statement on Four Corners

Today the Australian television program, Four Corners, aired a story on the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church which included a number of perspectives which we dispute. We will consider the news piece and may respond in more detail in due course.

The Church’s detailed statement in response to the questions from Four Corners can be viewed here.

The Church’s additional statement in relation to Mr Mick Dover was provided to Four Corners on the afternoon of 15 September 2025, prior to the program going to air and has not been published in full, but is as follows:

“The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC) became aware of these allegations around two years ago. Since then our church has engaged in a careful and considered process to investigate the allegations, with the assistance of external lawyers.

“The church fully acknowledged – and continues to – the serious allegations raised about conduct that has been said to have occurred many decades ago.  The claim has not been treated lightly, but nor have we been able to corroborate it.

“Our church entered into an informal mediation with the individual who brought forward the claim in a spirit of good faith and in a genuine attempt to resolve the matter. We sought to ensure sensitive matters could be addressed in a respectful and fair way.

“To be clear, the church has acted with the best of intentions, seeking both to look into the concerns raised and to find a resolution that respects the individual involved. But to date and after significant effort, this has not yet been successful.”

This is categorically untrue.   In the interest of transparency and truth, we have published a full statement below on this matter.   Media Statement Last week The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age published the article […]
