Stockholm’s homeless receive hygiene kits from RRT

The Rapid Relief Team, our global charity, recently donated a new supply of hygiene kits to St. Clara Church in Stockholm. The night-open church gives the city’s homeless a place to sleep for the night, and every weekday, they distribute food to those in need.

The RRT hygiene kit consists of deodorant, toothpaste and other necessary hygiene items, developed with those sleeping rough or experiencing homelessness in mind.

“St. Clara does invaluable work by offering Stockholm’s homeless a place to rest and get a meal, especially now that the nights are getting colder. This is the second year RRT have supported the church with hygiene kits, and we will continue as long as they are in need of our help” says Niklas Gunnarsson, RRT Team Leader in Sweden.

St Clara church at Sergels torg is a centre for extensive aid work aimed at vulnerable people in Stockholm, such as the homeless, refugees and people with addiction problems. In addition to places to sleep and distribution of food, the church also organizes emergency interventions for people in crisis, as well as offers conversations and counseling.

St. Clara’s church meets thousands of vulnerable people every week through food distribution, night-open church, conversations and counselling, and other outreach activities. The business we conduct is completely dependent on the gifts we receive. It is with great gratitude that we accept gifts in order to continue helping our fellow human beings,” the church writes on its website.

The activities in St. Clara’s church are part of the Church of Sweden, but since an EFS association is responsible for all activities in the church, they do not receive part of the church fee but are entirely dependent on donations.

When autumn and winter comes, and the options for those living in homelessness are few, places like St. Clara’s Church become invaluable. RRT is glad to contribute to their efforts, says Niklas Gunnarsson.

The Rapid Relief Team is a global network of volunteers from the our Church. RRT offers practical support to other charities, rescue services and countries in critical situations.
