The Grace Trust Donates £10,000 to Help Build New Emergency Care Centre at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital

The Grace Trust charity has donated £10,000 to support the construction of a new Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Centre at the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

The SDEC Centre is part of a purpose-built facility under development, which aims to revolutionise the hospital’s emergency department by allowing staff to rapidly assess, diagnose, and treat patients without unnecessary admission to a ward.

The Centre will help ease pressure on the hospital’s busy Emergency Service Department, which in the peak winter months can see as many as up to 300 daily attendees. By streamlining patient care, the new SDEC Centre will reduce both waiting times and hospital stays, and enhance patients and families’ overall experience.

The donation from the Grace Trust, which is a charity associated with the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, will especially support the building of enhanced private cubicles within the SDEC Centre, which will accommodate some of the most vulnerable and critically ill children at the hospital.

The cubicles, equipped with the latest medical and diagnostic equipment, will also include thoughtful details, ranging from wall decorations and playful images to bespoke lighting fixtures and comfortable seating, to make the hospital stay as comfortable as possible for patients and their families.

Jane, the mother of a patient who accessed the SDEC pilot scheme, spoke about the benefits of the Centre, noting that “having access to a service like this helped to deal with the shock of a diagnosis when the whole family were already upset, so being able to be comfortable and receive quick and quality care was vital.”

This donation reflects the Grace Trust’s commitment to support meaningful causes, helping to save lives and assist people in their time of need. As the charitable giving arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church in the UK, the Trust supports initiatives that benefit society and align with its members’ Christian beliefs, founded on the principles of care and compassion.

Charles Hathorn, Trustee of the Grace Trust, said:

“We were delighted to be able to contribute to this vital addition to the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. At the Grace Trust, we are always looking for good causes to support and we have heard many testimonials from parents about the significant difference that the SDEC Centre can make in expediating and improving patient care.

“We hope our donation will provide much-needed comfort and support to the children and families in need of urgent care from the hospital’s dedicated staff.”

Adam Challoner, Philanthropy Fundraiser, expressed appreciation of the Alder Hey Children’s Charity, saying:

“We are incredibly grateful to the Grace Trust for their generous donation. Their support will help make the SDEC Centre a reality, enabling life-changing work to take place for years to come.”
