Life-changing baby warmer for Starship Hospital
Starship Hospital’s life-changing care for newborn babies has been boosted by a new $50,000 Infant Warmer, donated by the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church’s Rapid Relief Team. The state-of-the-art equipment, which provides light and warmth during resuscitation, will be put to use in the Hospital’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Rapid Relief Team New Zealand Director Jon Renton joined Starship doctors and nurses to officially hand over the equipment.
“Anyone who has ever had a baby go to NICU knows how vital cutting-edge technology and medical expertise is to giving your child the best change of a healthy life,” Jon said.
“Many New Zealanders including Rapid Relief Team volunteers have had children who have been cared for at Starship, so we were glad to jump at the opportunity to help.
“This Infant Warmer is going to help the nurses and doctors at Starship who do an incredible job looking after our youngest and setting them up for a long and healthy life.
Starship operates as the national referral centre for specialist paediatric care including cardiac and surgical care for infants with its NICU handling more than 1,000 admissions per year.
