Transcript:

Hello, my name is Rachel Dallas, I’m 17 and I’m from Kingston, Jamaica.

A typical day for me would include school and then I’d come home and study, because I have exams.

My spare time would involve music – I like to sing, and music is a very big part of my life. Apart from music, I would sometimes hang out with my friends, and we would make scrapbooks of trips we went on. Sometimes we would gather together after school, maybe go shopping or play a game of football or volleyball.

Being a part of the brethren community means a lot to me it’s a place where I feel safe, it’s a family setting, it’s very secure and it has helped to keep me grounded. What I enjoy about the community is the fact that there’s always somebody that’s looking out for you, you may think that you’re going through something alone or it’s hard, life is hard, but there’s always somebody that will hold your hand or give you an encouraging word. It will always just be like a family; you can feel comfortable wherever you go.

I would say that I come from a musical family, I grew up with two older sisters and an older brother. As far back as I can remember we were always singing together, playing together, just having a good time. Our lives revolve around music.

So, the Caribbean Fusion project was absolutely amazing. We had never done anything like that before, so it was something new. We had our different parts of Caribbean Fusion, like the band, different crews but I was a part of the choir, and for some of the songs I sung lead.  We all played an equal part and gave our all. It was also a learning experience for all of us, we got to come together as four Caribbean islands and have a good time, but still have something, a product afterwards.

So it wasn’t all fun and games, it was hard and sometimes we just wanted to go home! But we just kept the end in mind and it was really good. In the long run the experience was what I expected, it was fun and all of us coming together and having a good time. It was so much fun I would do it all again.
