Statement on ANZAC Day
Speaking about ANZAC Day, Lloyd Grimshaw, a member of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church and whose grandfather served in New Guinea during World War II said:
“The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC), sometimes incorrectly referred to as ‘The Exclusive Brethren’, deeply respects ANZACs and all those who have served in war.
“Members of our church served as medics and stretcher bearers in both World Wars as well as the Korean and Vietnam Wars, amongst others.
“Members of our church don’t mark any individual days such as ANZAC Day (or Easter or Christmas). That doesn’t mean we don’t honour those who sacrificed in war.
“Members of our church did not ask for our children attending Sherwood Ridge Public School to be excused from ANZAC Day services.
“That said, the church does not have any issue with the school or Department of Education, and we are sure there was no ill intent.
“All Brethren children are encouraged to have the upmost respect for the men and women who have served, or who are serving, our country. They are held in the highest regard.
“Brethren often served on the front lines, rescuing the wounded. And many were recognised for bravery after going to the frontlines unarmed to retrieve casualties.”
