Bottles of juice and icing sugar in crate for food bank

Stop Food Waste Day

One in seven people in the UK faces hunger because they don’t have enough money, which has been proven to have adverse effects on overall health.

Many charitable organisations work to bridge the gap for those in need by offering food and necessities in times of crisis. Based in Scotland, Glenrothes Foodbank is one of over 2000+ food banks nationally that provide support and resources to those in need.

A simple box of food can have a significant impact, and that’s why Kirkcaldy Gospel Hall Trust, as part of an ongoing commitment, has supported the Glenrothes food bank by donating a range of essential food items monthly from their local Campus & Co Store.

The local community is very grateful for the ongoing supplies and the benefits they bring to those in need. It also supports the Kirkcaldy Campus & Co store by helping them reduce food waste.

Why Stop Food Waste Day?

Did you know the UK throws away around 9.5 million tonnes of food waste every year, and 8.4 million people in the UK face food poverty?

This highlights why The Compass Group launched the campaign Stop Food Waste Day in April 2017: to increase awareness of the environmental impact of the food waste crisis and encourage people to share information and tips on how to avoid food waste.

Members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church support those in hunger across the globe in many ways, including donating food to support food banks and preparing meals for children in need.

Whether it’s making use of leftovers from family meals, sharing tips to avoid food waste, or participating in a food donation program in your business, we can all do something towards this global crisis.

This is categorically untrue.   In the interest of transparency and truth, we have published a full statement below on this matter.   Media Statement Last week The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age published the article […]
